What is a National Criminal History Record Check (NCHRC)?
A NCHRC is a database search of an individual, using various personal information references, to identify if an individual has a criminal history. A Criminal History Information (CHI) relates to records of court convictions and findings of guilt, or other information which have been obtained by an Australian State or Territory Police Service.
NCHRC is completed to ensure that a person in a position of trust or specified field of endeavour, or who is required to meet mandated requirements, is screened for criminal records.
Why Complete a Check?
The completion of a NCHRC contributes to making informed hiring and management decisions to ensure you select the right applicant with the right skills for the job.
In any hiring decision, employers want to know that the candidate is honest and trustworthy and one way of making that assessment is to confirm if a candidate has a recent or relevant criminal record.
The cost of conducting a NCHRC has to be measured against the risks of hiring someone who could financially damage you or your client's business and/or company reputation.
The WorkPro Advantage
Our business objective is to establish a single point of entry to conduct and verify a range of pre-employment processes.
WorkPro has successfully delivered a robust and practical solution for managing mandatory e-learning and inductions for a number of years, so the opportunity to integrate the processing of NCHRC's into the WorkPro portal made logical business sense, providing further opportunities to ease the effort and cost of processing and verifying mandatory pre-employment information.
To deliver our service, WorkPro aligned itself with an innovative business partner, Risk Group, who has a reputation for providing access to a simple, secure, online interface to the National Criminal Database, to provide fast, accurate and cost effective information, and transparency about relevant criminal results about any potential candidate.
The majority of NCHRC's are processed in a matter of seconds online, and a result returned directly to your desktop, to ensure that your pre-employment process is fast and thorough.
Specialist Expertise
When a criminal check is conducted, the result of a check may change the outcome of an employment decision, so you need to use caution in interpreting the language of a criminal check outcome, which includes extensive legal terminology, abbreviations and a myriad of obsure penalties that arise under legislation from across Australia.
It was therefore important in selecting a business partner that they could offer clarity for our clients in result outcome descriptions if required. The Managing Director of Risk Group was a Senior Officer with Victoria Police with extensive experience in criminal investigations, prosecutions, industry regulation and information management, including areas of the force responsible for management of criminal records. This means that he is well placed to provide assistance in determining the true nature of the finding, the underlying offence type and the penalty to ensure you have the best possible understanding before making your employment decision.
